What is palliative care at home?

When someone is living with a serious or life-limiting illness, the focus of care shifts from trying to cure to ensuring the very best quality of life possible. Palliative care is about comfort, dignity, and making each day as meaningful and peaceful as it can be. It can begin at any point after a serious diagnosis and it works alongside other medical treatments rather than replacing them.

Receiving palliative care at home means your loved one can stay in the place that holds their memories, their routines, and the people they love most, surrounded by everything that brings them comfort. Our carers work closely alongside GPs, district nurses, hospice teams, and specialist palliative care professionals to ensure a joined-up, fully coordinated approach. We take the time to truly understand the individual, their wishes, their values, and what matters most to them, so that every aspect of the care we provide reflects that.

Dignity & respect

A carer stays in your home through the night, available if needed. Sleeping or waking shifts available.

Comfort at home

Staying in familiar surroundings with loved ones close makes an enormous difference.

Family support

We care for the whole family and not just the person receiving care. No one should feel alone.

Clinical coordination

We work seamlessly alongside GPs, nurses, hospice teams, and all healthcare providers.

How we can help

Our palliative care support is fully tailored to the individual and their family. Care can be arranged for a few hours a day, overnight, or on a live-in basis, depending on what best meets the needs of the person at the centre of it all. Below is a guide to the support we provide, though every care plan is unique and created in close partnership with you.

Personal & clinical care

Our carers are trained to provide specialist support for people with complex and changing health needs, always delivered with gentleness, patience, and the utmost respect for the individual’s wishes and comfort.

Emotional & family support

Palliative care is never just about the physical. It is deeply emotional for the individual and for everyone who loves them. Our carers are there to provide a calm, compassionate presence throughout and to support the whole family during an incredibly difficult time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Palliative care is a broader term. It can begin at any point following a serious diagnosis and focuses on improving quality of life by managing symptoms, pain, and emotional wellbeing. It can be provided alongside curative treatments and may continue for months or even years. End of life care is a specific part of palliative care, focused on the final weeks, days, or hours of life. Both are centred on comfort, dignity, and ensuring the individual’s wishes are honoured.

Absolutely. Working closely with the wider healthcare team is central to how we operate. Our carers liaise regularly with GPs, district nurses, hospice teams, specialist palliative care nurses, and any other professionals involved in your loved one’s care. Good communication between everyone involved is essential and we take that responsibility seriously.

Yes. We understand that palliative situations can change rapidly and we are set up to respond. Our team is available to discuss your needs at short notice and we can arrange support, including out of hours, where the situation requires it. Please do not wait if you need us. We would rather hear from you too early than too late.

Yes, and we believe this is one of the most important parts of what we do. Caring for a loved one through a serious illness is one of the hardest things a family can go through. Our carers provide emotional support and reassurance for family members, offer respite so that family carers can rest, and can signpost to bereavement support and aftercare resources when the time comes. You are not alone in this.

Palliative care needs can evolve significantly and we are with you every step of the way. Your care plan will be reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed, whether that means increasing the level of support, adding overnight care, or transitioning to full-time live-in care. We will always work with you and your wider healthcare team to make sure the right support is in place at every stage.

Yes, absolutely. Our palliative care service complements NHS and hospice support and does not replace it. Many of the people we support also have regular visits from district nurses, palliative care specialists, or hospice teams. We work alongside all of these professionals to provide a joined-up, seamless experience for the individual and their family.

We are here when you need us

Whenever you feel ready, our team is here to listen with no pressure, no rush, and no obligation. We will take the time to understand your situation and help you find the right support.
